White Nero surrounded by durable dog toys for chewers

Every dog owner knows the frustration: you buy a new toy, hoping it will finally be “the one”—the indestructible fortress that withstands your dog’s relentless jaws for more than an hour, maybe even a day. But then, almost before you’ve had a chance to enjoy that blissful moment of a happy dog with their new treasure, you sigh. Not a sigh of relief, but one of sheer resignation as you spot the first tell-tale signs of destruction. If you’re constantly searching for Toys For Dogs Who Chew Through Everything, you’re not alone.

At Dog Care Story, we understand this struggle intimately. As pet care specialists and advocates for happy, healthy dogs, we’ve seen countless toys meet their untimely demise. That’s why we partnered with our dedicated team at a local dog shelter, Benafim Dog Shelter, to put five of the most highly-rated “indestructible” dog toys to the ultimate test. Our canine experts—Nero, Max, Maya, Black Nero, Jean, and Pebbles—know a thing or two about shredding, gnawing, and demolishing toys. We spent our own resources to purchase these toys and ensure our review process was impartial and focused on real-world performance. While “indestructible” is a big claim, we wanted to see which of these durable options truly stood up to the challenge posed by dogs who chew through everything.

Our goal is to provide honest, reliable, and trustworthy feedback to help you make informed decisions, ensuring your furry friend gets safe, stimulating, and long-lasting entertainment. Discover the best toys for dogs who chew through everything based on the unbiased opinions of our expert testers.

Our Canine Experts’ Rigorous Testing Process

We selected five popular “indestructible” dog toys from the market, spending £76.31 to acquire them for our review. Each toy underwent a full week of intense scrutiny from a diverse group of resident dogs at the Benafim Dog Shelter. This wasn’t just a casual play session; these toys were chewed, tugged, played with, eyed curiously, taken into water, buried, rediscovered, and put through their paces by some of the most dedicated chewers we know.

The toys tested included:

  • The Nylabone Extreme Tough Dog Chew Toy
  • The Kong Rewards Ball
  • The CyunCmay Indestructible Dog Toy Bone
  • The Hetoo Indestructible Squeaky Dental Care Dog Toy
  • The Kong Wobbler

Our canine team provided their direct, unvarnished opinions. Diplomacy isn’t their strongest suit when it comes to toy durability, which is exactly what you need when looking for toys for dogs that chew through everything.

In-Depth Reviews: Top Toys for Dogs Who Chew Through Everything

Here’s what our shelter dogs had to say about each product:

1. Nylabone Extreme Tough Dog Chew Toy

This Bison-flavoured XXL Extreme Tough Dog Chew Toy is specifically marketed for the most powerful of chewers and dogs weighing over 23kg. We paid £19.16 for this particular model.

Nero, our wise 9-year-old Pit Bull, who often seems more intelligent than his human counterparts, dedicated hours to gnawing on this toy. To our delight, it barely showed a mark. Despite its large size, it’s surprisingly light, making it easy for dogs to carry around. Its slightly curved design allows for an easy grip, making the chewing process straightforward and deeply satisfying. This Nylabone quickly became one of the best dog toys for dogs that chew through everything in our test.

Maya, a 3-year-old who came to us abandoned and terrified, had little experience with toys. Yet, she took to the Nylabone immediately. There were no confused looks; she instantly understood its purpose, enjoying a good chew and then excitedly running around with it in her mouth, encouraging Max and others to join the chase.

From a human perspective, it’s incredibly easy to keep clean – once we manage to retrieve it from an enamored dog, that is! Even better, the Nylabone doesn’t lose its flavour, ever. For owners who despise mess and lingering smells, this bone is a dream: absolutely no residue or odour.

Black Nero, our Cane Corso cross, is legendary for his powerful chewing. He can effortlessly pick up and shred huge tree trunks as if they were twigs. When anxious, he’s even managed to bend strong fencing material. This Nylabone proved to be Black Nero-proof, and he genuinely loved it. After countless hours of chewing, there was hardly a tooth mark on the bone. It’s truly a contender for the title of best toys for dogs who chew through everything.

The Details:

  • Bison flavoured throughout (also available in chicken and turkey), encouraging continuous chewing.
  • Features raised nubs and bristles to help clean teeth and gums.
  • Safe and non-toxic.
  • Measurements: 30.48 x 13.97 x 5.08 cm
  • Weight: 485 grams
  • Designed for dogs 23 kg and above.

Summary:
Every dog at the shelter, paws on heart, wholeheartedly recommends this Nylabone. If you have a dog who loves to chew, gets easily bored, and needs something truly tasty and durable to sink their teeth into, this is an excellent choice among toys for dogs who chew through everything.

2. Kong Rewards Ball

The Kong Rewards Ball, which we acquired for £9.99, didn’t initially spark the same level of enthusiasm from our expert reviewers as some other toys. However, this reaction was short-lived. The concept of combining a toy that dogs can play with for hours with a treat dispenser is undeniably clever. For us humans, it was super easy to insert treats, and unlike some other dispensers, it didn’t require excessive brainpower or effort for the dogs to actually get their rewards.

Interestingly, the dogs seemed to prefer the squishy, soft, and bouncy side of the toy over its treat-dispensing function. Jean, in particular, loved this toy so much that he constantly buried it, spending hours chewing its rubbery side before digging it up again. His best mate, Komo, barely got a look in, much to his dismay.

But don’t just take Jean’s word for it; every single dog at the shelter, from the huge Jambo to the small Star, had a chance to play and chew. Not one tooth mark was found, and neither were any treats left inside. This is a sure sign of an effective and simple treat dispenser that also holds up as a durable toy.

The Details:

  • Measurements: 12.7 x 12.7 x 12.07 cm
  • Weight: 417 Grams
  • Designed for dogs 16 kg and above.

Summary:
The dogs feel this is a great all-around toy, skillfully combining two of their favourite activities: play and food. It’s a durable and tough toy that withstands a lot of chewing, bouncing, and interactive play, all while serving as an effective treat dispenser. A solid choice for dogs who enjoy interactive play and need durable chew toys for dogs who chew through everything.

3. CyunCmay Indestructible Dog Toy XL Bone

The CyunCmay XL bone, priced at £14.99, was initially met with the most excitement during unpacking. Sadly, this excitement came to an abrupt end once Black Nero got his paws and teeth into it.

He certainly had a tremendous amount of fun with it for about 30 minutes, playing tug-of-war thanks to the handles at each end, enjoying a good chew, and fetching it from the lake.

With its soft, rubbery texture and bendy, pliable material, we feared it wouldn’t withstand the extreme testing by our dogs, who take their job very seriously. Our fears were unfortunately confirmed by Nero very quickly, leading to a big sigh of disappointment. The results, as seen in the photos below, speak volumes.

Close-up of the CyunCmay orange bone, showing significant tooth marks and damage after 30 minutes of chewingClose-up of the CyunCmay orange bone, showing significant tooth marks and damage after 30 minutes of chewing

This toy clearly isn’t one of the toys for dogs who chew through everything.

The Details:

  • Measurements: 32.9 x 12.2 x 3.8 cm
  • Weight: 330 Grams
  • Made from TPR environmentally friendly material, with no chemical smell, safe and non-toxic.
  • Surface designed to help clean a dog’s teeth and control plaque and tartar.

Summary:
While described as strong, durable, and suitable for medium to large dogs, our dogs’ results speak volumes. Indestructible? No. Fun for a short while? Yes. If you’re looking for a chew toy that won’t be broken in minutes by an aggressive chewer, this is not the toy for your dog. If you’re looking for a fun retrieve toy that won’t be left unsupervised for chewing, it was very popular for interactive play. Our dogs were visibly disappointed when they realized their fun with this toy was very short-lived. Definitely not a solution for dogs who chew through everything.

4. HETOO Indestructible Squeaky Dental Care Dog Toy

This HETOO Dental Cleaning Toy, priced at £16.32, is primarily designed for cleaning a dog’s teeth. However, it was met with such unenthusiastic faces from our expert canine reviewers that we were left utterly perplexed.

Even its squeak, which is often a big hit, failed to excite them. Maya, ever the brave girl, initially ran and hid when she heard the strange noise from this peculiar-looking red object, but eventually returned to inspect it for a few moments.

To try and make this “toy” more appealing, we smeared peanut butter into its grooves, hoping to encourage our reviewers to chew. This kept Maya interested for a few minutes before she wandered off, leaving the toy behind. This toy simply didn’t make the cut as a captivating option for dogs who chew through everything, or even just regular chewers.

The Details:

  • Made from natural rubber.
  • Measurements: 12.7 x 12.7 x 12.07 cm
  • Weight: 417 Grams.

Summary:
The HETOO toy failed to excite our dogs or keep them entertained for more than a few minutes. Did we mention it squeaks? Annoyingly for us humans, it squeaks… oh yes, we know, we’re party poopers! Black Nero and Maya were the only ones who showed any interest whatsoever, and even that was very short-lived. This isn’t a top pick for tough dog toys or for sustained engagement.

5. Kong Wobbler Interactive Treat Dispensing Dog Toy

The dog’s initial reaction to this Kong Wobbler, which we bought for £15.85, was hilarious. “Is it a bird, is it a plane, a UFO… maybe?” Its large size seemed to be a factor. Unlike many other Kong treat toys on the market, this one is made from a harder plastic polymer, not rubber.

From a human’s point of view, the twist-off lid makes it easy to fill with treats. Our canine experts, however, seemed to struggle with it initially. They wanted to play (except for our sweet boy Killo, who was utterly perplexed by this wobbly red object), and they understood there were treats inside but couldn’t get them out.

We humans then realized that the Kong Wobbler needs to be used on smooth surfaces, not the stone pebbly surface often found in dog kennels. And, of course, the treat size needs to be compatible with the dispenser hole size – doh!

The Details:

  • Made from a Plastic polymer.
  • Measurements: Diameter 13 x 19 cm.
  • Weight: 485 grams.
  • Designed for dogs 12 kg and above.
  • Maximum Filling Capacity: 250 grams.

Summary:
Once the dogs understood what this toy was and how it worked, and once we humans realized it wouldn’t wobble effectively on a pebbly surface, this Kong went down a treat. Its large size makes it difficult for dogs to pick up in their mouths, which is arguably a good thing, as it reduces the chance of them sinking their teeth in and potentially destroying it. Indestructible? According to our dogs and our observations, yes, in terms of chewing it apart. Easy to use? Yes, once the humans realize the treat size placed into the Kong shouldn’t be too large for the dispenser hole. This is a fantastic interactive option among toys for dogs who chew through everything, as it focuses on mental stimulation rather than brute force.

Key Factors When Choosing Durable Dog Toys

Finding the right toys for dogs who chew through everything goes beyond just looking at the “indestructible” label. Consider these factors to make the best choice for your power chewer:

  • Material Matters:

    • Nylon: Often seen in bones like Nylabone, nylon is extremely hard and durable, designed to withstand aggressive chewing. It’s not meant to be consumed, but rather to be slowly worn down.
    • Hard Rubber: Brands like Kong excel with proprietary rubber formulas that are tough yet retain some flexibility, offering a satisfying chew. Look for “extreme” or “black” rubber variants for super chewers.
    • Composite Materials: Some toys use blends of materials to achieve durability and unique textures.
    • Avoid: Plush toys (unless specifically designed with “chew armor”), thin plastics, or materials that can easily be torn into small pieces, posing a choking hazard.
  • Size and Design:

    • Appropriate Size: The toy should be large enough that your dog cannot swallow it whole or get it lodged in their throat. Always check the manufacturer’s weight/size recommendations.
    • Shape and Texture: Toys with irregular shapes, nubs, or grooves can be more engaging and offer dental benefits. They also provide varied chewing surfaces.
    • Weight: Heavier toys can offer more resistance to chewing, but lighter toys might be preferred for carrying and interactive play.
  • Dog’s Chewing Style:

    • Moderate Chewers: Dogs who enjoy a good chew but don’t typically destroy toys within minutes. Many durable rubber toys work well here.
    • Aggressive/Power Chewers: These are the dogs for whom you’re seeking toys for dogs who chew through everything. They need extra-durable materials like hard nylon or extreme-grade rubber.
    • Destructive Chewers: Often chew due to boredom, anxiety, or puppy teething. For these, consider puzzle toys, long-lasting chews, and ensuring sufficient mental and physical exercise.
  • Safety First:

    • Non-Toxic Materials: Always ensure toys are made from pet-safe, non-toxic materials.
    • No Small Parts: Avoid toys with bells, squeakers that can be easily removed, or small attachments that can become choking hazards.
    • Regular Inspection: Even the toughest toys can eventually break down. Regularly inspect your dog’s toys for signs of wear and tear, and replace them when they become damaged. Loose pieces can be swallowed and cause digestive problems.
  • Interactivity vs. Chewing:

    • Some durable toys are primarily for chewing (like Nylabones), while others offer mental stimulation through treat dispensing (like Kong Wobblers or Kong Rewards Ball).
    • A combination of both types can keep your dog engaged and prevent boredom, which often leads to destructive chewing.

The Verdict: Our Canine Experts’ Top Toys for Dogs Who Chew Through Everything

After extensive testing and countless hours of chewing, tugging, and playful destruction, our canine experts and the Dog Care Story team have reached their final verdict on these five “indestructible” toys. There was much barking, tail-wagging, and what appeared to be very serious meetings before the final conclusions were drawn!

For dog owners constantly searching for toys for dogs who chew through everything, the clear winners were the Nylabone Extreme Tough Dog Chew Toy and the Kong Wobbler. The Kong Rewards Ball also performed exceptionally well in terms of durability. The CyunCmay bone and the HETOO toy, while having some redeeming features for interactive play or gentle chewers, simply didn’t meet the “indestructible” claim for our power chewers.

Investing in quality, durable toys isn’t just about saving money on frequent replacements; it’s about providing safe, consistent stimulation for your dog, reducing boredom, and preventing them from turning to your furniture or shoes. For true power chewers, options like the Nylabone and Kong products stand out as reliable choices that truly embody the spirit of tough dog toys.
