Are you considering switching to Nom Nom dog food but want to weigh the pros and cons before committing to a subscription? You’re in the right place! Like many dog owners, I was drawn to the promise of fresh, healthy ingredients. I first explored fresh dog food options back in 2018, thanks to a conversation with a Samoyed owner.
I originally subscribed to Nom Nom but paused when I moved to the UK. Upon returning to California in 2023, I decided to give Nom Nom another try, remembering how much my Alaskan Klee Kai, Skye, enjoyed it. While I currently feed my dogs We Feed Raw with Sundays food as a topper, I wanted to share my detailed Nom Nom experience to help you make an informed decision.

The Pros of Nom Nom Dog Food
Let’s dive into what makes Nom Nom stand out.
Fresh, Whole Ingredients
Nom Nom's fresh food recipes, showcasing visible, high-quality ingredients.
Nom Nom emphasizes the use of fresh, whole ingredients in their recipes, and it’s easy to see why. When you receive your first delivery, you’ll notice the visible chunks of meat and fresh vegetables. This immediately assured me that my Alaskan Klee Kai were getting high-quality nutrition. Unlike some fresh dog food brands that can look unappetizing, Nom Nom’s meals looked and smelled delicious.
Decent Recipe Variety
Having a picky eater, I appreciate the variety Nom Nom offers. Their current recipes include Beef Mash, Chicken Cuisine, Pork Potluck, Turkey Fare, Turkey & Chicken Cookout, and Lamb Pilaf. This selection allows you to rotate flavors and find something your dog loves, which is especially helpful if you have a fussy eater like my Skye.
Variable Recipe Pricing
A selection of Nom Nom recipes, highlighting the different pricing for each option, allowing for budget flexibility.
Nom Nom’s tiered pricing for their recipes is a major plus. If you’re on a budget, you can choose the more affordable options (like the chicken recipe) without sacrificing the benefits of fresh food. The chicken recipe is the most affordable, followed by pork and turkey. Beef is typically the most expensive.
Dog Approved (Taste-Tested!)
My dogs, Skye and Copper, particularly enjoyed the Beef Mash, Chicken Cuisine, and Pork Potluck recipes. The combination of fresh ingredients and palatable flavors encouraged them to finish their meals, which is always a win. I even taste-tested Nom Nom myself on my YouTube channel and was impressed, finding it more flavorful than Ollie, The Pets Table, and The Farmer’s Dog.
Optional Probiotics
Nom Nom offers optional probiotics to add to your dog’s meal plan. They have a full-spectrum probiotic for general wellness and a GI supplement designed to support a balanced microbiome and healthy digestion. These additions enhance the overall appeal of the brand.

The Cons of Nom Nom Dog Food
Now, let’s explore the potential drawbacks of Nom Nom.
Pricey Option
Nom Nom Lamb Pilaf, emphasizing the visual appeal of the food while also pointing out the higher cost associated with this fresh food option.
The most significant downside of Nom Nom is the cost. Back in 2018, I paid just over $150 per month for both dogs. Today, that same subscription would cost me $229 a month. Having reviewed numerous fresh dog food brands, I’ve found Nom Nom to be among the most expensive. The Farmer’s Dog, for instance, was about $75 cheaper per month for me.
Not Pre-Portioned
Nom Nom meals aren’t pre-portioned, meaning you need to carefully follow their feeding guidelines to avoid over or underfeeding your dog. It’s unfortunate that Nom Nom doesn’t offer this convenience like The Farmer’s Dog and The Pets Table do.
Limited Customization
Skye enjoying Nom Nom, highlighting a potential lack of customization in meal plans despite individual dog needs.
I was curious about Nom Nom’s custom meal plans. After completing their questionnaire for Copper (who needs to lose weight) and Skye (who needs to gain weight), I received the same quote for both. This seemed odd, as Skye theoretically needs more food per month than Copper.
No Meal Container Included
My first Nom Nom delivery didn’t include a meal container or a scooper. While a minor detail, it’s a nice touch when brands provide a container for storing partially opened meal pouches.
Final Verdict: Is Nom Nom Right for Your Dog?
Copper and Skye eagerly awaiting their Nom Nom Turkey & Chicken Cookout, capturing the excitement of dogs for the food.
In conclusion, Nom Nom offers a compelling fresh dog food delivery service with both advantages and disadvantages.
My dogs enjoyed the food as much as any other fresh brand we’ve tried, but the price was a deterrent for me.
Ultimately, I opted to stick with We Feed Raw, supplemented with Sundays food.
