Understanding the Richard Shrake Resistance Free™ Accreditation Programs

The Richard Shrake Resistance Free™ Accreditation Programs offer a comprehensive pathway for aspiring equestrian professionals to develop advanced riding and training skills. This program, designed by Richard Shrake, focuses on a unique philosophy of working with horses through understanding and mental dominance rather than brute force. This article details the different levels of the program, what each entails, and the journey toward becoming an accredited Resistance Free™ Instructor and/or Trainer.

The Resistance Free™ Philosophy

Richard Shrake’s approach emphasizes mastering the horse’s mind through a process he calls “Resistance Free™.” This method, rooted in the idea of “mind over matter,” aims to achieve a harmonious partnership between horse and rider, devoid of physical struggle. The core principle is that true control and understanding come from psychological insight, not from overpowering the animal. This philosophy is the foundation upon which all levels of the accreditation program are built.

Program Levels and Accreditation

The program is structured into distinct levels, each building upon the skills and knowledge acquired in the previous one.

Level 1: Graduate Course

This foundational course is designed for individuals seeking a personalized riding and training experience with Richard Shrake. Over four intensive days, participants work directly with their horses under Richard’s guidance. The program includes daily classroom sessions for in-depth knowledge review and a personalized 12-month “back-up” program. Upon completion, each student receives an individual review of their progress and a detailed schedule to follow at home. A dedicated “Hot Line” is provided for ongoing support from Richard for a full year. The cost for this level is $1,250.00.

Level 2: Masters Course

Following the successful completion of Level 1, riders can enroll in the Masters Course. This level is for intermediate riders aiming to elevate their skills. It is a mandatory step for those who aspire to become accredited “Richard Shrake Resistance Free™ Instructors and/or Trainers.” Participants will work with their own horses and engage in ground training with Richard. A recommended four-month gap between Level 1 and Level 2 allows ample time to perfect the skills learned. The cost for this level is also $1,250.00.

Level 3: Apprentice Course

The Apprentice Course is the next step after completing Level 2. This advanced program is open to all riders and trainers committed to refining their skills and becoming the ultimate finished rider and trainer. This level is also mandatory for accreditation. Apprentices will ride and work with various horses under Richard’s direct supervision, perfecting their teaching and training methodologies. Richard will assess individual talents and guide apprentices on the requirements needed to continue in the program, often with the assistance of a questionnaire. The cost is $1,250.00.

Moving Towards Professional Accreditation

Apprentice Area Clinic With Richard Shrake

For individuals who have completed Level 3 and are actively training students or horses as a business, conducting a clinic with Richard in their area is the next crucial step. Richard’s office assists apprentices in scheduling these two-day weekend clinics, providing support with advertising and promotion. The apprentice is responsible for securing a suitable venue that can accommodate a minimum of 25 riders and up to 200 spectators. These clinics are advertised as “Richard Shrake Resistance Free Clinic,” introducing the apprentice to the local equestrian community and showcasing their progress toward endorsement by Richard Shrake.

Richard Shrake’s Oregon Apprentice Session

Approximately three to six months after conducting their clinic, apprentices have the opportunity to attend a five-day session in Oregon with Richard Shrake and other advanced apprentices. This immersive experience focuses on refining techniques by working with a variety of riders and horses. During this session, Richard will certify each apprentice based on their demonstrated skills. Participants will also receive comprehensive instruction on operating a riding and training facility, public relations, client management, and self-promotion. The cost for this session is $2,275.00, which includes lodging.

It is important to note that due to scheduling, the Oregon program may sometimes be available before the apprentice conducts their own clinic. In such cases, accreditation will be finalized only after the clinic is successfully completed.

Becoming a Resistance Free™ Instructor and/or Trainer

Upon successful completion of all program requirements, accredited individuals will be promoted in the program’s newsletter and listed on the official internet homepage. The program will refer potential clients seeking trainers or instructors to these accredited professionals based on their specific teaching and training skills. Accredited individuals also have the option to purchase Richard Shrake products at wholesale for resale.

To maintain their accreditation, professionals must operate a dedicated training facility and demonstrate a high level of professionalism in their facility, appearance, and representation of Richard Shrake’s methods. Furthermore, they are required to attend or sponsor at least one weekend clinic annually, working in the ring with Richard to stay current with his methods and contacts. This annual requirement ensures the continued development and adherence to the Resistance Free™ standards. Accredited professionals are protected within a radius of approximately 100 miles of their facility, depending on the area and their accreditation level.
