Keeping your beloved pets safe and healthy is a top priority for any pet parent. When it comes to protecting your dog from the nuisance and dangers of fleas and ticks, PetArmor® Plus offers a convenient and effective solution. This guide delves into how PetArmor® Plus works, its benefits, and how to use it correctly to ensure your furry friend stays protected year-round. Fleas and ticks aren’t just a seasonal problem; they can be present in all climates and even lay dormant for months. Therefore, consistent monthly treatment is recommended by experts like the Companion Animal Parasite Council to prevent infestations and reinfestations.
Understanding PetArmor® Plus Flea & Tick Protection
PetArmor® Plus is designed to provide comprehensive protection against a range of pests. It’s formulated to kill adult fleas, flea eggs, flea larvae, ticks, and chewing lice. Furthermore, it actively works to prevent the development of flea pupae, thus breaking the flea life cycle. This means that not only does it eliminate current pests, but it also prevents future infestations from taking hold.
What Pests Does PetArmor® Plus Target?
The active ingredients in PetArmor® Plus for Dogs are potent against:
- Fleas: Kills adult fleas, flea eggs, and flea larvae. It also prevents the development of flea pupae.
- Ticks: Effective against various ticks, including deer ticks (which can transmit Lyme disease), brown dog ticks, American dog ticks, and lone star ticks.
- Lice: Kills chewing lice.
- Mites: Controls mites that may cause sarcoptic mange.
This broad-spectrum protection ensures your dog is shielded from common parasites that can cause discomfort, allergic reactions, and transmit serious diseases.
How Long Does PetArmor® Plus Take to Work?
You can expect PetArmor® Plus to start killing fleas and ticks within 24 hours of application. While significant pest reduction occurs within this timeframe, it may take up to 48 hours for complete efficacy to be observed. This swift action helps to quickly alleviate your dog’s discomfort and reduce the risk of disease transmission.
Application Guidelines for Optimal Protection
Applying PetArmor® Plus correctly is crucial for its effectiveness and your dog’s safety. Always ensure you are using the correct product for your pet’s species and weight.
Before You Apply: Choosing the Right Product
- Weigh Your Dog: It is essential to know your dog’s exact weight before purchasing. PetArmor® Plus for Dogs is available in specific weight ranges: 5-22 lbs, 23-44 lbs, 45-88 lbs, and 89-132 lbs. Using a product not suited to your dog’s weight can lead to underdosing or overdosing.
- Species-Specific Products: PetArmor® Plus for Dogs is formulated specifically for dogs. DO NOT use this product on cats, as it can be harmful. PetArmor® Plus for Cats is available and has a different formulation. Always choose the correct product for your pet.
- Age Restrictions: Only use PetArmor® Plus for Dogs on dogs and puppies over 8 weeks of age.
- Read the Label: Always read the entire product label carefully before application for detailed instructions and safety precautions.
Application Instructions
- Remove the applicator from the package.
- Hold the applicator upright with the narrow end pointing upwards.
- Position your thumb over the raised dot on the applicator.
- Use scissors to cut off the tip of the applicator along the indicated line.
- Part your dog’s hair between the shoulder blades until the skin is exposed.
- Squeeze the contents of the applicator directly onto the exposed skin. Apply in 3 to 4 spots along the dog’s back, from the shoulder blades to a point midway down the back, until the applicator is empty. Do not apply the product down to the dog’s tail.
Important Considerations for Use
- Drying Time: The product should not be applied immediately after bathing your dog. Ensure your dog is completely dry before application, and it’s best to wait 24-48 hours post-bath to allow the skin to dry thoroughly. The application site should not appear greasy once the product has dried. If greasiness persists after 48 hours, you can gently wipe the excess product from the fur with a damp washcloth.
- Frequency of Application: Do not reapply PetArmor® Plus more often than once every four weeks. Monthly application provides continuous protection.
- Use on Multiple Pets: If you have a cat that frequently interacts with or grooms your dog, it is recommended to separate your pets for 24-48 hours after application until the product has dried. This minimizes the risk of your cat ingesting the product by grooming your dog.
- Storage: When stored properly in a cool (below 77°F/25°C), dry place away from children and pets, and protected from direct sunlight, PetArmor® Plus has a shelf life of three years. Do not refrigerate. Temperature fluctuations can affect product effectiveness.
