Donating essential items is a direct way to make a significant positive impact on the lives of animals in need. This guide outlines the types of donations currently accepted at our campuses and provides information on how to contribute. Your generosity ensures that every animal receives the care and comfort they deserve while awaiting their forever homes.
Accepted Donation Items
We are grateful for a wide range of new and gently used items that help us provide for the animals. These donations are crucial for their daily well-being and enrichment.
Pet Food and Treats
We accept non-refrigerated treats and pet food. This includes new bags and cans. Opened bags are also welcome, provided they are in their original packaging to maintain freshness and safety.
New Pet Supplies
A variety of new pet supplies are always in high demand. This includes items such as collars, harnesses, leashes, comfortable beds, absorbent pee pads, practical litter boxes, litter, and engaging toys. These items contribute directly to the comfort and safety of the animals.
Flea and Tick Preventatives
New or unused flea and tick preventatives are accepted. Please note that we cannot accept any other types of prescription medications due to strict handling and storage requirements.
Crates, Kennels, and Exercise Pens
We welcome new or gently used exercise pens, crates, and kennels. To ensure they are safe and usable for our animals, these items should be free from stains, rusting, warped metal, or cracked plastic.
Linens and Towels
Clean and gently used towels, blankets, flat sheets, and pillowcases are highly valuable for providing comfort. Please ensure these items are washed and free of stains or holes. We are unable to accept pillows, comforters, or foam mattress pads.
Fur Items
Clean and gently used fur items, such as coats and shawls, can be repurposed to provide warmth and comfort for some animals.
Repurposed Items
We also accept cardboard box tops and trays, which are repurposed for use as disposable litter boxes. Newspaper is also accepted for various uses within the shelter.
Handmade Items
If you’re feeling crafty, approved handmade items from our Do-It-Yourself Packets are a wonderful way to contribute. These items are often unique and provide special enrichment for the animals.
Important Donation Guidelines
While we deeply appreciate every donation, it’s important to adhere to our specific needs to ensure the safety and well-being of the animals. We are unable to accept items not listed above or on our official Amazon or Chewy Wish Lists. For the safety of all animals in our care, please ensure any previously used items are thoroughly washed and/or disinfected before donation.
How and Where to Donate
Approved items can be dropped off during business hours at any of our campus locations in San Diego, El Cajon, Escondido, or Oceanside. No appointment is necessary, making it convenient for you to contribute.
