A Decade of Excellence: The Ermyn Lodge Racing Success Story

Welcome to Ermyn Lodge, a premier racing establishment that has been synonymous with success and dedication since its inception. Arriving in 2006, our journey began with a modest yet promising foundation of two racehorses and five broodmares. This marked the start of an era defined by passion, hard work, and a commitment to excellence in horse racing.

Early Triumphs and Enduring Partnerships

Our initial foray into racing featured the spirited The Big Orse, who quickly made his mark by winning a Newbury bumper and securing a commendable second place in his novice hurdle. Alongside him was Ede’s, a talented horse owned by our esteemed sponsors, Ede’s (UK) Ltd. Ede’s provided us with a remarkable start, achieving six consecutive victories over hurdles and fences. This early success forged a lasting bond, and Ede’s (UK) Ltd continues to be a vital sponsor to this day, maintaining a strong presence with horses like the multiple-winner Run for Ede’s, who has since transitioned to a valuable broodmare. Run for Ede’s herself graced the winners’ enclosures at prestigious tracks such as Epsom, Ascot, and Windsor, accumulating five wins and sixteen placed finishes from a total of 29 runs.

The syndicate horse Epsom Salts also played a significant role in our early achievements, bringing immense joy to an enthusiastic group of owners. His impressive record of 10 wins and 30 placed finishes in 68 starts included notable performances at Epsom, The Ladies’ Derby, The Jump Jockey’s Derby, and a second place in The Amateur Derby.

Nurturing Future Stars and Celebrating Top Performers

The early years also saw the emergence of promising two-year-olds like Young Dottie and Leadenhall Lass. Young Dottie, a record-holder for the seven furlong juvenile race at Lingfield, has now become a cherished broodmare. We eagerly anticipate the racing potential of her 2016 filly, sired by Mayson.

More recently, Jakey has shone as our star performer before his well-deserved retirement. We also celebrated a series of impressive streaks with horses like Celtic Ava, Saint Honore, and Hatsaway, each achieving three consecutive victories. Leah Freya delivered memorable performances at Epsom, including a memorable double victory alongside Quest for Wonder during the August meeting. In the 2015/16 season, she secured five wins, eight places, and a total of five wins from 17 runs. Tragically, Leah Freya sustained a fatal injury while competing strongly in the Cesarewitch.

Another recent retiree, Ermyn Lodge, proved to be a formidable stayer for our stable, notching up five victories and a second-place finish in the Cesarewitch at Royal Ascot.

A Legacy of Diverse Success

By the beginning of December 2008, under the expert guidance of Pat Phelan as trainer and breeding operations manager, the Ermyn Lodge team of 12 had overseen the success of 14 winners since Cactus King initiated our winning account on April 1, 2007. This period also yielded excellent results at major bloodstock sales.

Our winners have demonstrated versatility across various disciplines and distances. Ede’s showcased exceptional talent in jump racing, winning five out of six outings, while Epsom Salts demonstrated remarkable consistency on the flat, achieving a hat-trick within a three-week span. Our two-year-old successes, Young Dottie and Leadenhall Lass, emerged from just four runners, with Young Dottie setting a blistering pace for juveniles over seven furlongs at Lingfield.
