From 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, multiple horse farms across the state will open their doors, offering a unique opportunity to witness where Maryland’s magnificent horses are born, raised, and prepared for racing greatness. This self-guided tour is free for all and promises a delightful experience for families, horse enthusiasts, and anyone interested in local agriculture.

The Maryland Horse Farm Tour provides an unparalleled chance to go behind the scenes and connect with the horses that are central to Maryland’s identity. This event is an excellent opportunity to potentially meet future Preakness Champions and understand the dedication and expertise involved in preparing these remarkable athletes. Each participating farm offers a distinct glimpse into the world of horse racing, breeding, and care.

What to Expect During the Tour

As a FREE self-guided tour, you have the flexibility to design your own route, spending as much time as you wish at each location. Many farms will be offering special attractions, including giveaways, crafts, and unique demonstrations, available on a first-come, first-served basis. Look for the distinctive “Horse Farm Tour” signs to guide you. If you happen to feel lost, the friendly staff at any farm will be happy to assist you.

  • No Dogs Allowed: To ensure the safety and comfort of all animals and guests, please leave your pets at home.
  • Appropriate Footwear: Wearing closed-toed shoes is essential, as you will be walking outdoors on grass and dirt surfaces.
  • Rain or Shine: The tour will proceed regardless of the weather conditions, so come prepared for a day of exploration.

Baltimore County:

  • Merryland Farm (12901 Bottom Rd, Hydes, MD 21082): Experience Pony Racing from 11 am to 12 pm, featuring US Shetland Pony Racing. This farm boasts a 5/8-mile training track and scenic vistas.
