General Product Questions
Can I use Meredith’s training techniques for horses?
Yes, Meredith’s training techniques, while specifically developed for mules and donkeys, are applicable to all equines. She will explicitly state if a particular technique is not suitable for horses.
Which products do you recommend if I’m just starting out?
For beginners, we highly recommend starting with DVD #1, “Foal Training,” regardless of your equine’s age. Following this, DVD #8, “Management, Fitting and Grooming,” is essential for understanding proper housing, feeding, and overall care. It’s crucial to purchase the DVDs in sequence, beginning with #1, as each lesson builds upon the foundational training from the previous one. For more in-depth knowledge, consider purchasing the “Training Without Resistance” and “Equine Management and Donkey Training” books.
What if I have questions or need help with training?
A unique aspect of our training program is Meredith’s direct availability to answer your questions via phone and email. This website also offers a wealth of resources, including the Ask Meredith page, where you can find answers to common questions or submit your own, and an archive of her insightful Mule Crossing articles.
Are any of your products available in languages other than English?
Yes, our three comprehensive workbooks—Training Without Resistance: From Foal to Advanced Levels, Equine Management and Donkey Training, and Equus Revisited—have been translated into French, Spanish, and German. Each workbook is available for $39.99, plus shipping and handling, in our online store.
Where can I find reviews of Meredith’s products?
Meredith’s products have received numerous positive reviews in respected trade magazines. They are also endorsed by the American Donkey and Mule Society and the North American Saddle Mule Association. Her videos have been recognized with the prestigious Telly Award and Vision Award on multiple occasions. As Western Horseman noted, “A terrific series of videos for all mule and donkey lovers.” Furthermore, Mules and More magazine described the series as, “A wonderful resource for both new and ‘old’ mule owners. If you are interested in training your own mule, it’s a must have. If you’re not interested in training and just enjoy mules… it’s a must have.” You can find more testimonials on our Testimonials page.
Haven’t I seen Meredith’s techniques on TV before?
Yes, Meredith’s training techniques have been featured on television. A 13-week nationally televised show aired on the Outdoor Life Network starting April 2, 2000. Subsequently, her 26-week half-hour shows have been broadcast on networks including the Discovery Channel, DISH Network, and DirectTV.
DVDs
Training Mules and Donkeys Disc #1 is called “Foal Training.” Does that mean it is appropriate only for young foals?
No, DVD #1, “Foal Training,” provides an excellent foundation for equines of all ages.
Can I order the DVDs individually, or out of sequence?
You can indeed purchase any number of DVDs individually. However, we strongly recommend starting with DVD #1, regardless of your or your equine’s experience level. This initial DVD establishes a solid foundation, teaching you how to build trust and a strong working relationship. The information presented in each subsequent DVD builds upon the skills learned in the preceding one, making it beneficial to view them in order. Our DVD series is structured like a progressive education system for equines, where each lesson reinforces previous skills and prepares for future learning.
Will the DVDs play in non-US DVD players?
Yes, all our DVD titles are region-free and compatible with any DVD player worldwide.
What is included with my DVD?
Each DVD in our equine training course includes 40–50 minutes of detailed training instruction. Additionally, every DVD comes with a print-ready workbook featuring photos and illustrations, accessible directly from the disc.
What’s the difference between “field card downloads” and “deluxe field cards”?
Field cards are designed to summarize the essential information from the Training Mules and Donkeys DVD series and the Training Without Resistance and Equine Management and Donkey Training books into a compact, easily accessible format. They are perfect for use in the field, whether you’re in a round pen, arena, or trailer, assisting you during training sessions.
We offer two options for field cards:
Field Card Downloads: These can be purchased individually or as part of a bundle. They have been beautifully redesigned and contain all the necessary information. Upon purchase, you will receive an immediate link to download the files, allowing you to start using them right away. You can print multiple copies, laminate them, or write notes on them as needed. Bundles typically include downloadable field cards for the corresponding DVDs.
Deluxe, Laminated Field Cards: These cards were originally created for our VHS series and are now available again in correlation with our DVD series. These deluxe sets feature glossy, laminated cards that will be shipped with your order. They come in packages containing all 10 field cards and can be purchased as a standalone set or added to any of our training bundle products.
