The Current State of Horse Training
While recent updates have introduced high-tier horses like T10 Arduanatt and T10 Dine, the broader horse training ecosystem appears to be lacking crucial advancements. There’s been no development in breeding mechanics for other mount types such as donkeys, camels, or elephants. Furthermore, the introduction of promised content like the Donkuanatt mount has been notably absent. The core horse-catching mini-game, while accessible, has been criticized for its simplicity, diminishing the challenge and engagement for many players. This sentiment is echoed by players who have been anticipating promised expansions to horse training features for years.
Challenges with Wagon Upgrades and Acquisition
The Forest Path Wagon upgrades present a significant hurdle due to their prohibitive cost and the inability to use cron stones or force enhancements, making attempts at upgrading a low-yield endeavor. Evidence of this struggle is apparent in the market, where sales of high-enhancement wagon parts are virtually nonexistent. This issue has been a long-standing concern, with community threads from April 2022 already requesting changes.
Another area of concern is the acquisition of essential items like the Stonetail Wind’s Meal and Fiery Celerity Draught. Players primarily obtain these through difficult-to-access horse races or limited-time events. The scarcity is evident in the high number of pre-orders for the Stonetail Meal and the low total sales figures, indicating a bottleneck in player accessibility.
Re-evaluating the Purpose of Training Level
The current Training level system lacks meaningful integration with the progression of higher-tier horses, such as T9 and T10 awakenings. This disconnect diminishes the incentive for players to invest time in leveling their Training mastery, especially since it doesn’t offer significant advantages commensurate with the effort involved. Unlike other life skills that can be progressed passively, leveling Training often requires active participation, yet the rewards for this dedication are minimal. While minor perks like increased skill learning rates exist, a more substantial benefit, such as a buff to T9 and T10 awakenings based on Training level, would significantly enhance the value of this life skill.
Moreover, the difficulty and expense associated with obtaining Mythical Feathers further compound the issue. Incorporating a perk to the Training level for a percentage increase in awakening success or exploring alternative methods for acquiring these feathers would be highly beneficial.
A positive recent development has been the streamlining of the Forest Path Wagon registration and parts crafting process, with the amount of image pieces earned now fixed at 150, removing the RNG element.
Enhancing the Wagon and Trading Experience
With improvements, the horse training, trading, and overall wagon system possess the potential to become a highly enjoyable aspect of BDO. A more rewarding experience would undoubtedly draw more players into these engaging activities.
Additional Systemic Issues
Beyond the core training and wagon systems, several other related functionalities could benefit from attention:
- Horse Market Filtering: The current inability to filter the horse market specifically for donkeys, requiring players to sift through numerous pages of other mounts, is an inconvenience. The ability to breed and trade other mounts should also be considered.
- Magnus Teleportation: The Magnus system’s current limitation to only teleporting horses restricts its utility. Expanding this functionality to include other mounts would enhance player convenience.
These points, along with the broader need for updates to the Training and Wagon systems, highlight an opportunity for significant improvement within BDO.
